General Delivery

The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program at Collegium Humanum "Warsaw Management University" is structured as a postgraduate qualification ("studia podyplomowe") and adheres to international standards of Postgraduate Education within the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). Aligned with the criteria for the Harmonisation of Higher Education in Europe, the program has a duration of two (2) years.

The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program is tailored for individuals who wish to advance their education without pausing their professional careers. Combining online learning, self-study, and face-to-face teaching, the Doctor of Business Administration enables you to conduct substantial research while continuing your professional journey. The program unfolds in three stages, beginning with the Coursework phase, which concludes with the Research Proposal write-up (equivalent to chapters 1-3 of the thesis).

The second stage, the "Research Lab" follows, encompassing data collection and analysis based on your approved Research Proposal. This phase serves as the foundation for the third and final stage – the thesis write-up. Upon thesis approval, you will undergo a viva voce (oral defense).

Adopting a problem-oriented learning approach, the program prioritizes your initial research idea. The first stage involves webinars and workshops, providing networking opportunities and collaboration with academics and fellow DBA students. Through online coursework and workshop training, you'll develop skills essential for supervised research, covering research design, literature review, and research methods.

Guidance from your dedicated supervisor, mentor, and our network of experts aids your progress from idea to literature review, methodology, and data collection and analysis. The Research Lab, lasting around twelve (12) months, allows you to embark on the actual research proposed in consultation with your supervisor.

The final viva defends your thesis, justifying assumptions, data, and outcomes. Your research may lead to publications as journal articles or books. The program must be completed within two years of enrolling, with any extension requiring approval from the Academic Director.

Module Structure and Credits

The DBA consists of four modules (coursework). In higher education, a module refers to a self-contained unit of study within a course or program. Each individual module is designed to cover a specific topic, theme, or set of related topics, and they are typically structured to achieve specific learning objectives. Modules are also designed to provide in-depth subject knowledge and also contributes to a cross-functional understanding. Each module is distinct but contributes to the overall learning outcomes of the course or program. It also facilitates the transfer of credits between institutions that use a modular system.

The course-work phase within the DBA program comprises modules designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the entire research process, focusing on the acquisition of essential research skills. This phase entails training in basic research methods, encompassing both quantitative and qualitative methods and techniques. Interactive lectures across all modules prioritize student engagement and serve as a platform to acquaint you with crucial philosophies and strategies of scientific research. The coursework phase spans six (6) months and contributes a total of 30 ECTS credits to your academic journey.

All modules and related study materials can be accessed via our user-friendly e-learning platform and have to be prepared by self-study before joining the workshop. Workshops are offered throughout the year.

The coursework consists of the following mandatory modules:

1. Research Methods

2. Quantitative Methods

3. Qualitative Methods
4. The Research Proposal

The Research Proposal

The modules are assessed by applying the key concepts to your research proposal and build up to a high-quality academic research proposal. A research proposal approved by the Academic Committee allows you to move to the next stage. The research proposal earns 9 ECTS credits. It contains the first three chapters of the doctoral thesis: introduction; literature review; and methodology. The successful completion of the first stage (course work) of the DBA program allows you to enter the Research Lab.
